America

Stress is very common in today’s busy world. Between long to-do lists, managing daily expenses and juggling multiple roles we play in our lives, it is no surprise that stress consumes Americans.

In addition to traversing a turbulent year of fires, hurricanes and governmental chaos, which now leads us to the holiday season? Sigh…

According to the 2017 Stress in America survey, nearly two-thirds of Americans (63 percent) say the future of the nation is a very or somewhat significant source of stress, slightly more than perennial stressors like money (62 percent) and work (61 percent), according to the American Psychological Association’s report, “Stress in America™: The State of Our Nation.”

Clearly, the unprecedented occurrences that have taken place over this year has erupted several social, economic, health and sustainability issues threatening the health and well-being of our nation. Fifty-nine percent of Americans feel we have reached the lowest point in U.S history, spanning every generation, including those who have lived through WW II, the Vietnam War, the Cuban missile crisis and September 11 terrorist attacks.

  • Most adults do not believe they’re doing a good job managing the demands of life. The good news is that stress and anxiety are highly manageable; however, there are several myths related to stress as well as realistic de-stressors. By proactively managing your stress and dealing with anxiety, you can begin to intentionally create meaning and pleasure in your life and work toward a lifestyle that has you feeling excited about the holidays and New Year to come!

Take note to common myths and de-stressors to improve well-being.

  • Don’t wait for a rare opportunity to meet with friends once a year.
  • Do create more realistic ways in which to spend quality time with friends more often.
  • Don’t buy a gift to fulfill an expectation.
  • Do buy or create a personal memento that depicts meaning, purpose and pleasure.
  • Don’t forfeit your vacation days until the end of the year.
  • Do schedule vacations and commit to taking all of your vacation days to rest and enjoy life outside of your job throughout the year.
  • Don’t linger in old patterns that stunt your potential.
  • Do choose to focus on what brings you closer to your desires by going beyond your comfort zone and try something new.
  • Don’t use holiday food and alcohol as an excuse to cope with your anxiety and stress.
  • Do exercise 30 minutes a day to reduce stress. Exercising 30 minutes a day actually decreases your age by 2.8 years.
  • Don’t focus negative energy toward what is not working in your life.
  • Do practice what you have gratitude for and write it in a journal nightly. Those who keep a gratitude journal have been reported to be healthier.
  • Don’t put off your dreams any longer.
  • Do take time each day to accomplish a task that brings you closer to your life’s dream.
  • Don’t ignore what your body is telling you.
  • Do get a good night’s rest, every night.
  • Don’t wait to buy gifts and rush to accomplish holiday tasks at the last minute.
  • Do get organized and start holiday tasks and purchases, by a specific date, to avoid holiday traffic and the mad rush.
  • Don’t think you must fight stress.
  • Do think of healing as the answer.
  • Don’t feel you need to isolate yourself when holiday blues occur.
  • Do surround yourself with people who lift you up, as community is the key to improving one’s well-being.
  • Don’t consume more than an hour of news media.
  • Do write five things you are grateful for in a journal each night. Studies have shown those with a gratitude journal tend to live longer, healthier lives.
  • We have the capacity to re-train our brains by changing the energy we create within ourselves. Through the struggles of storms, fires, diversity and negative media, it is the collective truth and spirit that can change the world!

I am deeply grateful for your courage and vulnerability to be the change you wish to see and BE and lift your neighbor up when needed, do your part to save democracy and learn to ride the wave of change by asking for help when you need it.

YOU’RE OFFICIALLY INVITED TO THE CONSCIOUS PARTY!

Who doesn’t like a party, right? This is no ordinary party though — no costumes, masks, or facades allowed. Just you, showing up in all your glory! It’s been said that 90 percent of succeeding is showing up! We are all experiencing a transformational awakening together. What is so cool about this is that it gives us all a second chance to be who we really want to be, do what we truly desire, and live with our hearts and minds open. Have you heard of the term, tabula rasa? The Latin term means “blank slate” and according to Webster’s Dictionary, it is defined as “something existing in its original pristine state.” The mind is in its hypothetical primary blank or empty state before receiving outside impressions. By re-training the brain, I believe that we have the power for this to occur at any time. By abiding by our true nature, our minds become clear, and our brilliance unfolds as we rediscover the intelligence of our essence. It is a type of rebirth where you get to start again with this clear mind. It may be hard to grasp what a clear mind actually feels like without taking a long, relaxing vacation away from personal issues and the complexities of today’s world. You want to find clarity — but what will it take for you to grasp what a clear mind feels like?

Conscious Happiness

Remember Cindy Lou Who from “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas?” by Dr. Seuss. She was the bright-eyed, little girl and the hero of the story. A timid child, she displayed the most profound courage of anyone (including adults) in the city of Whoville. She represented and reclaimed what she and all the Whos of Whoville most loved, the happiest feeling known to its inhabitants: the feeling of Christmas.

Cindy faced up to the meanest, greediest, most self-absorbed creature — the Grinch — who was slowly stealing and hiding the happiness of each inhabitant until there was no happiness left. The Grinch believed that stealing every trinket, toy and piece of tinsel that symbolized happiness would leave an emptiness that the Grinch was all too familiar with: misery. As the snow began falling in Whoville, all the Whos gathered and sang joyous songs despite not having any symbols of their happiness. Cindy Lou represented the conscious happiness of the story, and the Grinch represented the false belief of perceived happiness. When the symbols were eliminated, the Grinch believed his response would be satisfaction. However, the true response was emptiness, a projection of the Grinch’s deep insecurity. The conscious happiness, however, is what prevailed. You see, what you might believe represents your happiness is a misperception or illusion. When you elevate your consciousness, you begin to see what truly is fulfilling to you. You can still create your own happiness, but it lies beyond your familiar perceived mindset.

In recent history, society has sought instant gratification. This collective consciousness has instilled what we believe is happiness but that is really a false sense of entitlement along with a mistaken sense of happiness. In reality, we all have the capacity to live happily when we follow our individual truth and don’t look for instant results. Each of us was born with a “barometer of happiness.” It’s our task to regulate this internal barometer so we can feel 100 percent happy more often than not. It will take a new belief system and conscious intention. We are all here to learn unconditional love where happiness is not only a lifestyle — it’s a conscious party!

Happy Birthday,  America!

For those of us living in the States, we are blessed to be born in a place where freedom, liberty and justice for all, reigns. Often our freedom to make choices is often constrained by our limited thinking. To know that one has the power to choose to do, be and create whatever they want is a power often abused or ignored, mainly because it appears as free. Our freedom is all part of the beauty that our founding fathers had the courage to create with walking away from an oppressive government to create a life and pursuit of happiness in a new Union, better known as the United States of America.

Therefore, we owe our freedom to our forefathers and those brave enough to protect our country’s freedom. Our freedom is a gift and comes with the challenge to embrace your freedom and make choices that align with solid core values, such as integrity, respect, trust, honesty, kindness, generosity….

The most powerful human ability is the ability to make choices. Every moment of every day we make choices. From the time we awake in the morning, the clothes we wear to the decisions at work, home, career and finances, all leads to a road of well-being. In turn, you can choose to be busy, you can choose to be stressed, you can choose your own happiness and joy, it’s genuinely up to you. No one has the power over your own happiness, as you hold the key.

According to Webster’s dictionary freedom is defined as; ” the absence of constraint of choice. “

In essence, most focus on what is limiting them, most focus on , what is in the way, what is lacking, what is not working ? How about what is working, what are you grateful for and what are the solutions available if we choose to look beyond the scarcity of our own thoughts and fears?

You see you do have the freedom to choose beyond what society would mold you to believe and begin to choose at any moment what freedom means to you: The freedom to choose…

  • to leave an abusive relationship
  • to say I love you
  • to start opening your heart and dating again
  • to create that new business
  • to write that book
  • to lose the weight
  • to stand up for yourself
  • to get divorced
  • to start a new career
  • to ditch the self- limiting thoughts
  • to stop staying in victim mode
  • to begin a new chapter of your life
  • to take a class
  • to volunteer
  • to overcome fear
  • to make new friends

It is up to us to make this country great! And to do so, you must live in your greatness and choose your highest potential, this takes action, ladies and gentlemen. Live your life by generating your own freedom and start making courageous choices. To honor this life you are honoring those who sacrificed their own lives so you could have the opportunity to shine and pursue your happiness and fulfill your potential.

It is time to make choices toward positive change and live in freedom where the action you take makes an impact and ripple effect to cause celebration to be alive!

You are supported in loved in your choices and we welcome you to be BOLD, BE BRAVE and BE YOU!

Cheers to your happiness,

Jackie

happinessdomainsThis past week has been a little wonky to say the least, a government shutdown, people forced out of work and families scrambling to make ends meet! My question is, What happened to the America we know and love?  Where we are proud of who we are as a nation and not bitching about what political party is undermining our country. This is usually about the moment I turn off the news and get down or up to the business of happiness, both mine and yours. My feeling is, the truth always surfaces, in some cases it may be so heavily guarded that one goes to extremes to hide the truth.

To paraphrase Einstein, We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. You have the power to turn dysfunction into function. It all starts with you!  Happy people make up happier communities and happier communities are the ones who thrive. The happiest countries in the world have universal medical systems and focus on the quality of their people’s lives not the quantity of  our output and consumption of what is not healthy for us. This is what is known as “happynomics” and it is on the rise.  As an Ambassador for changing the economic paradigm, it is my calling to alert you to a better way of life, one where collaboration, sustainability and wellness are paramount. This is not to say universal healthcare is the answer but functional medicine within a functional system is a large cog in the wheel of improving quality of life, for all. With that, we have a ways to go yet.

Leaders may describe happiness as achievement, a single Mom may describe happiness as an hour undisturbed in her day, Ghandi describes happiness when your thoughts, your feelings and your actions are in harmony.  How would you define your happiness? Happiness is not just an emotion, it is your self preservation. Let’s not stoop down to passive-aggressive levels but embrace what is meaningful and fulfilling to you, in your life.

The more you resist the idea that YOU are the creator and Chief Life Officer of  a new coming of economic age, the less you will depend on former ways of thinking and believing in the old paradigm to fix , solve and live in the flow of denial. Perhaps I am utterly aware of the economic shift , having walked away from a six figure career to save my own life, and faced with the reality of my own dependency upon good healthcare coverage, paid vacations and a corporate structure to keep me comfort. Despite this, working 60 hour weeks and  my lack of living a healthier life, due to the golden handcuffs of a job that was killing me, manifested in my body screaming in pain. Walking away from what appeared as security into the unknown has led to my truth and my calling, to serve others. It is time to be honest, walk in our truth and be authentic in all domains of our life. This may take on a new revolution,  to live beyond power and money and get down to the business of a new economic paradigm based on not just the pursuit of happiness but also the quality of our thoughts, feelings and actions.

When a major structure shuts down, do not go down with it. Shine your light, express you’re calling, be your purpose, live your truth.

The way to happy may have to do with where and how you spend your time, geographically. The cities that topped the charts in the U.S were polled based on the number of  tweets sent out in a recent report. Not exactly a science based study, however, no coincidence that the measured tweets derived from destinations that exude healthy lifestyle, beautiful surroundings and perhaps a slower pace. Relative to what spells happy to you may not necessarily resemble places such as Colorado, North Carolina or California, nevertheless, if you were to choose a spot to spend a week in the U.S., chances are one of those 3 spots would not be bad ! Lifestyle measures such as gun violence, obesity and Gallup’s traditional well-being survey correlated to the disparity . The infographic lists the 15 happiest places, “researchers scored more than 10,000 words on a positive-negative scale and measured frequency in millions of tweets across the country.”

Our view on this report is the community in which one lives is only one measure determining well- being and happiness. However, it is often the impact and participation of it’s dwellers that determine a happy community. Regardless of what your cities topography has to offer you, what are you offering to preserve your community in which to thrive?  This is barely the tip of the iceberg as to what we can learn about ourselves relative to where we live, how we live and the choices we make. Happiness is a choice and is an inside job. If you choose happiness chances are the sun is shining brighter in your city, regardless of your conscious tweeting capacity.
