The word centered, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary , is defined as emotionally stable and secure.

In today’s world one might concur that feeling centered, even if just for 15 minutes a day, may take a miracle. Miracles can happen! However, I am here to say that I learned to master the strategy to becoming centered by accident.

Suffice to say, this is NOT about learning to meditate. Albeit, I am an avid meditator and it has changed my life immensely over the years, however, meditation at one time, I believed, was a time waster. I literally had no time to learn how to quiet my mind to meditate. In fact , I thrived on the monkey chatter in my brain, believing the chatter was the gasoline to my adrenaline lived life, in hindsight it was also the stressor.

Many years ago I was hit with a triple whammy all in a matter of months, my Dad passed, a job I loved laid me off and the man I thought I was going to marry turned out to be mister wrong. All this change at once not only created extreme stress, I truly felt out of balance and lost. I tried to meditate but I simply could not get comfortable in my discomfort and I knew I had to find a path that had me excited and relieved at the same time.

Long story short, I stumbled upon a strategy that not only changed my life tremendously, I was manifesting my desires at a rapid pace by practicing the art of visualization. Through visualization we catch a glimpse of “what is” or  our preferred future. Anyone can do this and becoming centered is doable when you decide it to be. In other words, you must see it to believe it before it becomes a goal. And once you do your purpose begins to  align to your wants, desires and outcomes. This is the best moment to place your order to the Universe.

Think about your favorite athlete; perhaps a top tennis champion, Olympic gold down hill skier or soccer player, most champions started with a dream, however to narrow it down and get super focused entailed visualizing where he or she will land. The landing spot to where you want to be is paramount to the visualization process.

The question you may be asking  is, I don’t know where I want to land or what that looks or feels like? And that is perfectly ok, in fact, that is the exciting journey to becoming centered. Simply put, just think of your most happiest place, where your mind, body and soul feel at peace and immersed with heightened senses to your enjoyable surrounding. Once you become settled in to your dreamscape and begin to relax and release your thoughts. What happens is by opening your imagination, mental images that your intuition and third eye have held deep within begin to surface. Hence, the centered feeling within takes hold, this is also termed as outcome visualization.

A second example of  visualization is known as process visualization where imagining each step as if it already happened. I practiced process visualization when I decided to sell my home in California. I began to visualize the sold sign on my front lawn. I also wrote down a number of the amount I required to receive from the sale of the house and kept it on my night stand where I could see it every morning as I woke and every evening when I went to bed. I journaled every night that the person buying my home was a cash buyer and was receiving a very happy home filled with love. All my inspired actions, from sage-ing the house to decorating it as a welcome zen space for the new buyer instilled a quick cash offer in 30 days.

The combination of outcome visualization with process visualization is powerful and anyone can do it. Visualization is scientifically based that athletes who trained with visualization succeeded as winners versus athletes whose performance was based on  physical training alone. Therefore real world events with visualization has a profound effect upon the subconscious mind. The brain cannot tell the difference between imagination and reality.

Your thoughts and imagination are powerful. The more often you SEE yourself in your preferred future, with a strong feeling and belief behind it, the greater chance for your dream or desire to happen.

When you see your self as calm, relaxed and in tune, the greater you will feel as centered and stable.

Despite the obvious of what is negative happening in the world, it’s often how we respond to the negative that can make a BIG difference in your personal life. So what is happening in your personal life and how are you responding to it? When you think about how you respond to stress, negativity or what a loved one might be doing to upset you the response can take on a hidden effect that interrupts your daily life, energy level , eating habits and enthusiasm for being ALIVE. Which leads to the scientifically proven activity that improves happiness – which is SLEEP. Research shows that  adults  require 6 hours and 20 minutes of uninterrupted sleep. Over 60 million Americans  have chronic sleep disorders, which not only effects your well – being but also may have a deleterious effect upon you physical health and your happiness. Number On Activity interrupting Your Happiness

Here are a few tips for improving your sleep:

– Talk to a friend or mentor, air out your worries, concerns and talk it out. It’s important to empty the mind and replace it with what you desire , not what you fear. Fear is an unproductive response which can grow like a weed taking over the  positivity in your mind. Place your mental energy toward the positive and tell yourself that everything will be okay. Set the intention before you go to bed, that tonight will be a good night’s sleep!

– Have your last meal before 6:00 p.m. – your body requires energy to digest and different types of food could be interrupting a natural physiological process. Have a nice cup of green or mint tea (decaffeinated) to rest your digestion and calm the body.

– Keep any pesky illuminated mobile, computer or TV screens away from your bedroom. The light zaps your body and can deplete the natural biorhythms you require to attain a restful sleep, for one thing.

– Try listening to a meditation CD to lull you to sleep. Soft music and slow meditative breathing is a positive way to drown out the chatter in your mind.

–  Most women have trouble sleeping due to a lack of magnesium and calcium. Try taking those two supplements before you go to bed, it can work wonders.

Remember 10% of life is what happens to you, 90% is how you respond to it.

Greetings and Welcome to my first happiness journal of 2014 ! Todays lesson for happiness in 2014 is about following your truth.   Happiness

As we have endured complex times of 2013, the lessons have molded a resilience we never knew we had and survived with leading to moments of inner truth. Sometimes facing our truth requires a detox of negativity. I do not mean this as just cleaning out the clutter in your life but more of detoxing what is toxic in your life. This may include people, a stressful or unfulfilling job, a daily grind or changing toxic “feel good” patterns. This  leads to a happier 2014 in which the word for 2014 is SIMPLIFY.

It is your truth that will prevail! When you listen to your heart and act upon it, you come closer to what is known as your JOY. Or as I coin it, Just Owning Yourself. As you lead with your JOY what occurs is the alignment of your purpose, your passion and the harmony of your actions simultaneously. Mastering JOY , in my experience with mentoring professionals, creates sustainable happiness, not just an emotion of happiness but an inner peace with a bit of excitement that manifests. This does not mean obstacles will not occur, but what it best means is you have a positive way in which to overcome those obstacles. You see, there is no stress, worry, reactiveNESS because you are organized and clear about your vision. Becoming clear is where the word SIMPLIFY comes into play, the shiny objects are gone, the excess is eliminated and the feeling of “need” becomes invisible. You have everything you want in the simplicities of life. Without healthy self-love, healthy relationships and a strong foundation there is no morale. We require morale for self awareness, longevity and for feeling fulfilled. The same corresponds with in organizations, systems , government and families. I found this quote from Tony Robbins to be significant to today’s world in which we live:

“It’s important to remember that most people spend more time in their business than they do with their children, or with their spouse. For most business owners, the business is just an extension of their identity. So when we can help people make a shift or a dramatic change in their own psychology, that spills over to impact their business and every other area of their life.” 

It is your business to listen to your JOY, your TRUTH and simplify, as an accountable action, as you deserve to renew and live your dream out loud ! This is part of the amazing journey we are here to experience.
