Something like going to the park may seem like a repetitive, unoriginal idea for getting out of the house, but it can easily become new and exciting by simply adding a new spin to it. Try these five ideas to make a simple outing or activity something to be happy and excited about!

Pack a picnic or barbeque! Whether you take the family, some close friends, or even some coworkers, a picnic is a social activity that is both fun and delicious. It creates an atmosphere for bonding and learning, and it can serve as a small escape from the hum-drum routine of everyday life. Most importantly, it’s a thoughtful way of saying, “I’m happy I’m here with you today.”

Bring a Frisbee or lively activity! The park is a perfect place to have a fun pick-up game of soccer, volleyball, or football. Not only can you reconnect with friends or teach your children how to play a sport, but you can also rediscover your love for a sport and burn a few calories while doing so! Summer is the perfect time to be active and outdoors, and the park serves as a great environment for doing so.

Have a water balloon fight! We all remember how fun and exciting this was when we were young, so why can’t it still be fun now? This is a great way to connect with the children in our lives or even to embrace our own inner-child. Beat the heat this summer with some water balloons and maybe even a super-soaker water gun!

Learn how to slackline! Slacklining is a recreational activity that not many people know about. It originated as a form of tightrope walking, and it consists of walking on a taut length of webbing between two stationary points (such as a couple trees at the park). Although your first time trying it may be challenging, it is an excellent way to develop better balance, posture, and focus. If this is not for you, lengthen and strengthen your body with pilates, it does wonders for the spine and toning your muscles for a sleeker figure.

Meditate or join a yoga class! Meditation and yoga are fantastic de-stressors that can be done individually or in a group. Instead of cooping yourself up in a stuffy room, breathe in the fresh outdoor air and bring your yoga class to the park. This will help you relax while feeling refreshed from the summer air.

Summer is the time to let your inner shine out and explore the possibilities of living a healthier, happier life. It all starts with a decision to make the best out of your day, your summer, and your life! Remember that the littlest things can make the biggest difference, and take control over your life today!
